The Club de Producto Turístico is an innovative initiative that is gaining momentum in the Canary Islands, aiming to diversify and enrich the archipelago’s tourism offerings. We cover this exciting development on our First Minute Excursions and Last Minute Transfer blog.

Club de Producto Turístico

Recently, the Canary Islands Government’s Department of Tourism launched the first Club de Producto Turístico in the region, focusing on linking artisanal fishing with tourism.

The Minister of Tourism and Employment, Jéssica de León, presented this initiative during the Blue and Maritime Tourism Meeting held on the Fermina Islet in Lanzarote. According to De León, the club aims to “enhance fishing activities related to tourism,” highlighting the importance of artisanal fishing as part of the Canary Islands’ cultural and maritime heritage.

This pioneering project, launched in Lanzarote, has a primary goal: to allow tourists to become “fishermen for a day.” The initiative, funded by European grants, offers visitors the opportunity to join local fishermen on fishing trips, experience their work firsthand, and enjoy fresh seafood at local fishermen’s guilds.

Key objectives of the Club de Producto Turístico in the Canary Islands

The Club de Producto Turístico in the Canary Islands aims to fulfill several significant objectives:

  • Economic diversification: It provides artisanal fishers with an additional source of income, contributing to the sector’s sustainability and preservation.
  • Authentic and memorable tourist experiences: It allows visitors to immerse themselves in the fishing culture and traditions of the Canary Islands.
  • Training for fishermen: The initiative helps fishermen interested in supplementing their income through tourism-related activities.
  • Promoting awareness and appreciation of the Canary Islands’ maritime and fishing heritage.

A Groundbreaking Experience

The success of this first Club de Producto Turístico in the Canary Islands could pave the way for the development of similar initiatives in other sectors. For instance, sports tourism or adventure tourism clubs could be introduced, making the most of the islands’ unique natural resources.

The implementation of these product clubs represents a significant opportunity to strengthen tourism in the Canary Islands, offering high-quality, unique experiences that contribute to the region’s sustainable development.
