The waters of southern Gran Canaria are gearing up for a showdown of skill and strategy between humans and fish. From August 29th to 31st, the fourth edition of the International Big Game Fishing Open Gran Canaria or Open Internacional Pesca de Altura Gran Canaria will be held, an event that brings together enthusiasts of this sport from around the world. We’re talking about it today on our blog at FirstMinute Excursions and LastMinute Transfer.
Open Internacional Pesca de Altura Gran Canaria
Based in the marinas of Pasito Blanco, Puerto Rico, and Mogán, this tournament summons vessels to compete in the capture and subsequent release of the most representative species in the area. Among them are blue marlins, bigeye tunas, and swordfish, true marine giants that will test the skills of the participants.
The International Big Game Fishing Open Gran Canaria is not just a sporting challenge. It’s an event that promotes sustainable tourism on the island.
Participants from various latitudes have the opportunity to enjoy the landscapes and hospitality of Gran Canaria, generating significant economic impact in the area. Dozens of vessels from different countries are expected to participate.
The tournament operates under the principle of catch and release, a fundamental practice for the conservation of marine resources. Captured specimens are measured, photographed, and then returned to the sea, helping to maintain the richness and balance of the ecosystem.
If you’re an experienced sport fisherman and the idea of facing the giants of the Canary Sea excites you, you still have time to register. You can do so through the website of the Pasito Blanco Yacht Club.
Substantial cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second, and third place winners, as well as other awards for the largest catches in different categories.
It’s certainly a great opportunity to experience Gran Canaria in a different light. Are you in?
