The Gran Canaria Walking Festival is Back

The Gran Canaria Walking Festival is an event designed for people of all ages and experience levels. From experienced hikers to beginners, everyone can participate in the various scheduled routes that vary in difficulty and duration. These routes are carefully designed to showcase the island’s rich biodiversity, volcanic landscapes, and cultural and historical heritage.

The festival is more than just a series of hikes. It is a community experience that brings together people from different parts of the world to enjoy natural beauty, learn about local history, and immerse themselves in Canarian culture. Participants have the opportunity to meet expert guides who not only lead them through the best trails but also share their knowledge about the local flora, fauna, and traditions.

Very Special Routes

In the 2024 edition, the Gran Canaria Walking Festival will offer a variety of themed routes, each designed to highlight a particular aspect of the island.

Starting with the Volcanic Route, which will take you to explore the volcanic landscapes that form the heart of Gran Canaria. Walking through extinct craters and lava fields, participants will be able to experience firsthand the geological history of the island.

Next, the Charming Villages Route is ideal for those who wish to discover the more cultural side of Gran Canaria. This route passes through several picturesque villages where participants can enjoy traditional Canarian architecture, gastronomy, and the hospitality of the locals.

There’s also the Laurisilva Forests Route. Here, hikers will delve into one of Europe’s rarest and oldest ecosystems: the laurisilva forests, where the humidity and dense vegetation create a fairy-tale-like environment.

Additionally, the Coastal Route will surely be a favorite among sea lovers, as it follows the coast with incredible views.

Finally, the Night Route will allow hikers to enjoy the island under the starlight. With clear skies and no light pollution, this route is perfect for stargazing.
