Firgas is a small municipality located in the north of the island of Gran Canaria, about 25 kilometers from the capital, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. Discovering Firgas

Firgas has a fascinating historical past that dates back to the pre-Hispanic era. Originally, it was inhabited by the Guanches, the first inhabitants of the Canary Islands. Over time, the municipality has witnessed numerous significant events throughout the centuries.

After the Castilian conquest in the 15th century, it underwent considerable cultural and social change, which is reflected in its architecture and traditions.

Located in the north of Gran Canaria, Firgas extends from the peaks to the coast, offering a diversity of landscapes that range from wooded areas and fertile valleys to impressive cliffs over the Atlantic.

The climate is generally mild and pleasant throughout the year, making it an ideal place for outdoor activities.

Its relationship with water

Water has been linked to the history of the town since its origins. Thus, the village is located in an area with abundant water, which allowed the development of agriculture and livestock. Additionally, water is also used for the production of electricity and for supplying the population.

In fact, one of the main tourist attractions of the municipality is its artificial waterfall, located in the center of the town. This 30-meter-long waterfall is a very popular place for walking and taking photographs.

On the other hand, the historic center is another of its tourist attractions. With narrow and cobbled streets, it is full of traditional Canarian houses, many of them with balconies adorned with flowers.

In addition to the artificial waterfall and the historic center, Firgas offers its visitors other tourist attractions. Among them are the water mill, the Alameda Park, and the viewpoint of Cruz de Firgas.
