Gran Canaria is a multifaceted destination where sports play a significant role. Today, on the First Minute Excursions and Last Minute Transfer blog, we bring you an overview of the LPA Trail 2025, which will celebrate its tenth edition next year.
The LPA Trail 2025 is Here
The LPA Trail , one of the most iconic mountain races in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, will hold its tenth edition on Saturday, March 29, 2025. This event, firmly established in the island’s sports calendar, offers participants the opportunity to explore unique natural landscapes without leaving the capital.
The competition maintains its traditional format with three categories:
- LPA Larga (21 km): Starting from the iconic Plaza de Santa Ana, runners will traverse various natural and urban environments, including the bed of the Guiniguada Ravine and the Viera y Clavijo Botanical Garden.
- LPA Media (11 km): Starting from the football field at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Tafira, this route features a small modification compared to previous editions, offering new challenges for participants.
- LPA Corta (5 km): Starting from Lomo Verdejo in the Lomo Blanco neighborhood, this distance is ideal for beginners in trail running.
All categories share the same finish line at Plaza de Santa Ana, in the heart of the historic district of Vegueta.
Registration and Participation
Registrations for the tenth edition of the LPA Trail 2025 will open on December 4, 2024, via the official website www.lpatrail.com.
The previous edition gathered 1,000 participants, setting a record attendance. The upcoming edition is expected to surpass this number, consolidating the race as a must-attend event for trail running enthusiasts.
Youth and Children’s Categories
The LPA Trail also encourages the participation of younger runners. Therefore, it includes youth categories for children and cadets (ages 13-14 and 15-16). They can compete in the LPA Corta, while juniors (ages 17-18) have the option to participate in the LPA Media.
Additionally, the LPA Kids race is designed for children aged 0 to 12 years, promoting physical activity from an early age and making the event a family-friendly day.
A Unique Experience
The LPA Trail stands out as the only race that allows runners to pass through the Viera y Clavijo Botanical Garden, a natural gem in the city. Furthermore, the route through the Guiniguada Ravine and the San Juan Batteries offers a unique perspective on the geography and culture of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
