It\u2019s very different vs the other Canary Islands. There are wonderful places such as the protected landscape of \u00a0La Geria, that we will better describe in \u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lastminute-transfer.com\/index.asp\">Lastminute Transfer.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>A recognized landscape <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>La Geria has been recognized for the first time for its singular and unique features in the year 1987. It has been declared\u00a0 \u201cNatural park&#8221;, thanks to the law \u00a012\/1987 of June the 19th, the\u00a0 Declaration of natural spaces of Canary Islands. Then it has been named as &#8220;Natural Park of La Geria&#8221; and this has been the first step to protect the zone.<\/p>\n<p>With the law\u00a0 12\/1994 \u00a0of December 19th of Natural Spaces of Canary Islands, the classification of the zone changed becoming \u201cprotected landscape\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>La Geria has important protections. According to the normative \u00a079\/409\/CEE about the conservation of wild birds, it has been declared as \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zona_de_especial_protecci%C3%B3n_para_las_aves\">ZEP\u00a0<\/a>(special protection zone for birds).<\/p>\n<p>By the zone of La Geria there is the Natural monument of \u00a0Cueva de los Naturalistas, that has been declared as \u201carea of ecological sensivity&#8221;.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Origin and development of the protected area of La Geria<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Lanzarote is a volcanic island, in which the eruptions marked its history. Due to the Timanfaya\u2019s eruptions most of the island was covered with a mantle of volcanic ash or lapilli (the Canaries usually say pic\u00f3n) and among the affected areas, we should name La Geria.<\/p>\n<p>Local people noticed that plants covered with sandy layer grew better than the uncovered plants. For this reason they started to find a manner to take advantage of that soil.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>They excavated about two and a half meters below the surface until they found the ground. The typical conical forms started to be popular by the protected landscape of La Geria. They are protected from the wind thanks to a stone wall.<\/p>\n<p>The main function of this kind of stone wall is to avoid that the sand brought by Alisios winds, will be deposited on the crops.<\/p>\n<p>The pic\u00f3n absorbe and keep humidity and this allowed farmers to start developping rainfed crops in the area. The pic\u00f3n avoid also the erosion of the ground and it is a sort of insulating, maintaining a constant temperature of the cultivated land.<\/p>\n<h2>Cultivate in La Geria<\/h2>\n<p>By the protected landscape of La Geria exist different \u00a0cultivations but it\u2019s famous above all for its \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/firstminute-excursions.com\/discovering-the-vinos-of-lanzarote\/\">wines<\/a>. The visitor can see many grapevines of different kinds of grapes.<\/p>\n<p>From these grapes it\u2019 s possible to obatin the best wines of Lanzarote. Among them we should mention the high graduation wine malvas\u00eda. It\u2019s possible to visit also local wineries to taste it.
