It\u2019s known also as <strong>blind crab of jameos<\/strong> or as\u00a0<strong><em>Munidopsis polymorpha<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>There are other crustaceans belonging to the same family, and that live in other areas of Canary Island, but this one specifically lives by the Jameos del Agua.<\/p>\n<p>Also other copies have been found in other zones such as Los Charcos de Luis, in \u00d3rzola, where the sea water creates a perfect \u00a0habitat.<\/p>\n<p>The Jame\u00edto is very important to Lanzarote, and people consider it as the animal symbol of the island.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>How is the Jame\u00edto<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s a blind crab, it\u2019s very small and it does not exceed the 3 cm longitude. It is white because it\u2019s an albino animal.<\/p>\n<p>and it has a great sense of hearing but a battered sight. It is also defined as the blind jameos crab.<\/p>\n<p>On both sides of the head it has two spines and a little flattened tweezers. These are larger in males than in females. According to the quantity of food available, it can move to find it or just staying \u00a0close.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Which is the difference with the other crabs? <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>It\u2019s very small and albine and also its habitat is totally different.<\/p>\n<p>Most of the similar crabs live in Canary Islands to a big depth, while the Jame\u00edto lives \u00a0in the Jameos del Agua. It has been formed by the big eruption of\u00a0 Volcano Corona \u00a021.000 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>The<a href=\"https:\/\/es.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tubo_volc%C3%A1nico_de_La_Corona\"> volcanic tube Corona<\/a> is composed by a series of underground caves, connected to the ocean. It filters into them creating a rich ecosystem with a unique fauna with fascinating crustaceans.<\/p>\n<p>They have been able to adapt during the years to the unic surroundings. The Jameito, even if it is blind, has survided also to the tourism.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Endengered Jameito <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Many expert zoologists tried to protect this peculiar small animal, since when it has been discovered.<\/p>\n<p>With the opening to the tourism of Los Jameos del Agua, the number of blind crabs was drastically reduced.
