Where is Arrecife?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

What to do in Arrecife<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Arrecife is not a huge capital as the other ones, on the contrary it is small. You can visit it by walk.<\/p>\n

Arrecife is considered as the smallest municipality of \u00a0Lanzarote<\/strong>, with 22 km2. At the same time it is also the most populated town of the island<\/strong>, with more than 55.000 people living there.<\/p>\n

Charco de San Gin\u00e9s<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It is situaded by the neihbourhood of \u00a0San Gin\u00e9s. <\/strong>The Charco of San Gin\u00e9s is created with water coming from the sea, towards the center of Arrecife. It\u2019s is very important because there the first fishermen nucleus was born here.<\/p>\n

In the past it was defined as the Venice of the Atlantic<\/strong>. After the reforming of \u00a0C\u00e9sar Manrique<\/a>, it \u00a0is characterized by small boats and fishermen boats.<\/p>\n

The view is very nice: the lagoon with its boats, surrounded by white houses, bars and restaurants. The environment is typical and special and it worths the visit.<\/p>\n

Church of San Gin\u00e9s<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the past the church of San Gin\u00e9s was an hermitage and later on it became the actual temple. It\u2019s possible to see typical elements of the canarian architecture, mixed with Baroque and Mudejar tints. Beside the church there is the Market Square. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Puente de las Bolas<\/strong><\/h2>\n

This bridge made of rocks, has been built in the XVI centurya and it has a longitude of 175 meters. \u00a0It was the access to the San Gabriel castle from the mainland.<\/p>\n

San Gabriel Castle<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It is a fortress \u00a0built on a islet in front of the harbour<\/strong> of Arrecife. Its function was to protect the harbour and the city from the attacks from the sea. Today, inside the Castel there is the Museum of History of Lanzarote<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

San Jos\u00e9 Castle<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It is known as Fortaleza del Hambre<\/strong>. San Jos\u00e9 Castle, was built as defense between 1776 and 1779. \u00a0In 1975, was built the actual headquarter of the International Museum of Contemporary Art (MIAC).<\/p>\n

La Casa Amarilla<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In the past it use to be the headquarter of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. It has been declared as place with cultural interest in the year 2002,\u00a0 and in its bottom flor it is possible to find many expositions about the history and the life of Lanzarote.<\/p>\n
