Fiesta del Almendro en Flor in Tejeda<\/h2>\n

The Fiesta del Almendro en Flor\u00a0 or Almond Blossom Festival in Tejeda takes place in early February, marking the beginning of spring on the island. It has the power to transform the landscape into a spectacle of white and pink hues.<\/p>\n

Initiated in 1970, the Fiesta del Almendro en Flor was born with the purpose of celebrating and preserving Canarian traditions and identity. Unlike other festivities in the archipelago, this is one of the few celebrated in winter, taking advantage of the almond trees’ bloom that colors the landscape in white and pink.<\/p>\n

Since then, it has become the first pagan festival established as such in Gran Canaria and one of the first in the entire Canary archipelago.<\/p>\n

During the festival, Tejeda adorns itself to welcome thousands of visitors. The program includes a variety of events that celebrate Canarian culture and traditions.<\/p>\n

From traditional folk music performances to local craft exhibitions, as well as tastings of typical gastronomy and demonstrations of traditional crafts and trades.<\/p>\n

The neighborhoods of Tejeda actively participate in the celebration, setting up stalls along the main street where they offer local products and traditional dishes.<\/p>\n

Almonds Everywhere<\/h3>\n

As expected, the almond is the undisputed protagonist of the festival, reflected in the local gastronomy.<\/p>\n

Thus, visitors can taste homemade marzipans, almond nougats, cookies, and a series of traditional dishes such as watercress stew or “papas arrugadas” with mojo sauce.<\/p>\n

Additionally, other award-winning local products like honeys, cheeses, and wines can be sampled.<\/p>\n

The Almond Blossom Festival has been declared of National Tourist Interest, recognizing its cultural and touristic importance.
